ULTRA DEFRAG PORTABLE

UltraDefrag is a free, open-source file defragmentation utility for Windows. It can defragment any system file, including the Registry. It's fast and powerful by design, in part because it skips fancy data optimization strategies in favor of speed and reliability. UltraDefrag Portable is a fully portable, fully functional release based on UltraDefrag's source code. It has three operating modes: a GUI mode, with a standard user interface; a console mode; and a native mode for advanced users. We tried the GUI mode, in part because we like to see a cluster map when we defrag our drives.

You'll need Administrator privileges in Windows to run UltraDefrag Portable. The Web-based UltraDefrag Handbook offers guidelines for installing and using the tool, FAQs, best practices, hardware recommendations, tips and tricks, and more. Some of the manual's recommendations may be a bit advanced for the average user, such as disabling the Paging File. The documentation also warns against defragmenting SSDs and flash drives, though the program will do so if you tell it to, so heads up. UltraDefrag's up-to-date user interface has an old-school feel to it, partly because of the font but also because it has the classic defrag utility layout, with disks displayed in a list view above the color-coded cluster map. UltraDefrag offers defragmentation as well as Quick and Full Optimization (they only work on NTFS disks, not on FAT disks) that offer similar operations, but quicker and lighter. UltraDefrag Portable certainly is fast. It quickly analyzed and defragmented our system's HDD, displaying free space, used space, and other data under draggable column headings. The program also generates HTML-based Reports. The Unicode configuration file needs to give way to proper controls.

We like UltraDefrag Portable's speed and flexibility. It's largely the same as the installed version of UltraDefrag, except that it runs from any directory without having to be installed, making it a good option for mobile users. However, the portable version lacks the installed version's boot time defragmenter, a major feature, so we recommend using the installed version where you can, and taking the portable version on the road with you.
UltraDefrag is a powerful open source defragmentation tool. Its engine is very fast, because it is created as kernel-mode driver. They are three interfaces to them: graphical, console and native. First is very useful, because it use cluster map visualization. Console is good for task scheduler, and native tool - for advanced users and programmers.

What's new in this version: Version 5.0.6 has added "Debug" item to the help menu and "View change log", "View translation report", and "Submit current translation" items to language menu.

MALWAREBYTES ANTI-MALWARE

The bottom line: A lack of recent substantive updates haven't prevented Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from staying on top of the on-demand malware-killing mountain.

Review:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a surprisingly effective anti-malware tool given that it hasn't received any major updates in the past few years. Sure, the scans are a bit faster and the installation is definitely smoother, but overall the product remains unaltered.

Installation
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, or MBAM as it's often abbreviated, has a rapid installation process that simultaneously loads the program onto your computer and updates its detection engine when you run the installer. The whole process took under 5 minutes on our computer.

Interface
MBAM is no paragon of design aesthetics, but it is usable. It opens directly to its Scanner tab, and offers eight other tabs in a horizontal row. Few options per tab keep down the clutter.

What it lacks in visual pop it makes up for in utility. The rest of the tabs let you access the updater, quarantine, scan logs, the ignore list, program settings, and the FileAssassin tool for deleting locked files. The About tab tells you relevant program information, such as version number, while the Protection tab provides access to the real-time protection features. If you're in the freeware version, Protection provides a near-instantaneous, one-click path to upgrade to the trial.

However useful MBAM is, the text-heavy interface clearly identifies it as a tool for power users, although there are more complicated malware removal tools out there. Considering that the program's major function is to scan, and that's generally a one-click process, we'd like to see a more accessible interface in the future.

Features and support
Malwarebytes' primary feature is to scan your computer for the bad guys, and on that level it's quite successful. It offers a quick scan, a full scan, and a flash scan to analyze memory and autorun objects. It comes with Malwarebytes' proprietary Chameleon technology, which lets the program install on many infected computers even when the malware blocks other detection tools.

MBAM supports multiple drive scanning including networked drives, context menu options including a scan-on-demand function for individual files, and the FileAssassin option under the More Tools section for removing locked files.

In the premium version, the Protection controls block zero-day infections from malicious sites and files, along with the scheduler. We'd prefer one or the other be available in the free version, since many full security suites offer both in their paid versions.

MBAM has built its reputation as one of the pre-eminent malware removers over the years on a nearly entirely word-of-mouth campaign. Extra features are lacking, historically. This is only marginally more than a one-function wonder, but it's so good at what it does that it's practically required for you to have it.

Performance
Malwarebytes is a relatively speedy malware remover, with the quick scan taking about 7 minutes and 30 seconds to finish even with other high-resource programs running. The heuristics engine proved on multiple computers during empirical testing that it was capable of determining the difference between false positives and dangerous apps.

Surprisingly, the premium Protection component didn't slow down startup times, even when it's configured to start with Windows.

REVIEW YTD VIDEO DOWNLOADER

YTD Video Downloader is a great little piece of freeware for downloading and converting video...if you can ignore the aggressive upselling and multiple browser add-on bundling offers. It quickly downloads video from YouTube, Vimeo, Blip.tv, Vevo, and more than 60 other supported video sites, converts video to the standard formats for iPad, iPhone and PSP (MP4); iPod (MOV); cell phone (3GP); Windows Media Video (WMV); Xvid MPEG-4 (AVI) and MPEG Audio Layer 3 (MP3), and also plays back videos in a very basic player.
YTD Video Downloader automatically loads whatever URL you've got saved to your primary clipboard, saving you the trouble of hitting Ctrl-V (and also possibly embarrassing yourself with an accidentally exposed URL). Hitting Download starts automatically transferring the MP4 file to the customizable "Save to" location, but the entire bottom half of the interface is dedicated to promoting the Pro version (along with a large, red Upgrade Now button at the top of the interface).

Multiple files in the Activity tab can be sorted by any of the columns -- Size, Progress, Speed, Status, and ETA -- and the columns can be resized, but the columns can't be reordered or removed, and it's odd that the entire interface doesn't resize or go full-screen. Thus, if a video fails, it's difficult to read what comes after "Failure (6) ..." in the space allotted.

The player works by loading a specific directory on your machine, then listing all of the supported videos it can show. Double-clicking loads the video with a very basic set of player controls -- play/pause, full-screen, volume -- that are familiar to anyone who's ever used any online video service. It's about as bare-bones as a video player can get, but it works fine.

There's no built-in program help for YTD Video Downloader, but the app links to the helpful Web site. One nice addition for power users is support for the open-source FFmpeg media framework for converting files using a large range of customizable parameters. The Web site also provides command-line examples for less experienced users who want to dip their toes into manual conversion.

YTD Video Downloader does what it says on the tin, and does it quickly. It's also regularly updated to account for changes in the various video service platforms. If you don't mind the additional software bundling and aggressive promotion for the Pro version, it's a powerful, lightweight, and free tool for saving streaming video for later viewing.

YTD Video Downloader allows you to download videos, including HD and HQ videos, from dozens of sites and convert them to other video formats. The program is easy to use--just specify the URL for the video you want to download and click the Download button. The program also allows you to convert downloaded videos for iPad, iPod, iPhone, PSP, Cell Phone, Windows Media, and XVid, or play video that you have previously downloaded or converted.

The YTD Video Downloader interface includes a tabbed format for easy downloading, converting, and playing, and a new Activity tab allows you to keep track of multiple downloads and conversions in real time. The program has the ability to download full playlists as opposed to just one video. YTD Video Downloader is available in English, Albanian, Arabic, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Chinese Simplified, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Kurdish, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish.

REVIEW STICKY PASSWORD FREE

Have you just about run out of phrases, dates, and names that add up to strong but memorable passwords? And yet you're constantly being prompted to update your old passwords with new, strong passwords, or you have to create new one when you forget your logon ID or password, again. Sound familiar? What you need is a tool that can generate, manage, and store strong, secure passwords for all your access points. Lamantine Software's Sticky Password Free is just such a tool. It can create strong passwords for all your sites and apps, store them in securely with encryption on your PC or a USB drive or other remote device, and log you in automatically. It's compatible with Chrome, Firefox, IE, and other browsers, and it can import data from browsers and other programs. It supports multiple accounts so each user can have their own master password and database. It backs up passwords automatically so you can retrieve lost passwords if necessary. It even stores secure memos. The fully functional freeware version is limited to 15 accounts.

Sticky Password Free opened with a Configuration Wizard, which started with creating a Master Password. The wizard rates password strength. Users must verify they've read a text box describing the importance of the Master Password to be able to click Next. The next step is to install autofill plug-ins for your supported browsers, including an optional but advised step to disable each browser's limited built-in password managing feature to prevent conflicts with Sticky Password. Finally, we entered our Master Password to unlock Sticky Password.

Sticky Password Free's colorful interface is dominated by three large buttons: Getting Started, Web Accounts, and Identities. A toolbar replicates all three and adds Bookmarks and App accounts. Naturally, we started with Getting Started, which includes a tutorial describing how to unlock and manage the program via its systray menu, which also opens the Password Generator and the Quick Launch Box. We configured our Web Accounts, which included importing data from multiple sources via a wizard. That's just for starters; Sticky Password Free is a flexible tool that does a lot.
Sticky Password Free creates strong passwords for you and securely stores your passwords and gives you automated login for websites and applications, plus online form-filling at the click of a button. Sticky Password FREE supports Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and major browsers. Your passwords and personal data are securely encrypted on your computer or USB device and accessible only by you. Sticky Password Free supports multiple logins and passwords for each password account. Quickly and easily import your passwords from browsers and other programs. Automatic backup of the encrypted password database ensures that you can restore past passwords if you ever need to. All Microsoft accounts on the protected computer have their own individual password database, so you don't have to worry that family members will have access to your password through their MS accounts.

What's new in this version: Version 6.0.3.368 has added option to start sticky password minimized to systray and fixed support for auto fill on many website.Click to see larger images

REVIEW SPEED KEYS

Hot keys can make your life easier, at least while you're at your computer. For instance, they can enter strings of text like your e-mail or street address, saving you time and reducing your typing effort. Moose-Tech's Speed Keys is a simple tool for automating typing tasks via hot keys. You can create Groups to manage your hot key combos, which can be log-in credentials, passwords, credit card data, phone numbers, or even instant-message phrases or your go-to insults and gags. Speed Keys is freeware, but the free version is limited to five items and 25 characters. However, the full version costs about what you'd pay for a sandwich at the average lunch spot, and less than the average donation request, so it's well worth checking out.

Speed Keys has a simple interface that opened with a list view of sample Speed Keys under various Groups. Adding new Groups or Speed Keys is easy; just click New to open the wizardlike Speed Text Editor, including specifying single hot keys or in combinations of twos or threes, with the first optional hot key either Ctrl or Alt and the second Alt, Ctrl, or Shift. The third hot key can be any key. The minimum length for Speed Text entries is four characters; anything less would be just as quick to type! Following the program's clear, extensive Help file, we created some simple Speed Keys similar to the examples. We opened a blank Notepad page and tested out Speed Keys, though the program works in a wide range of apps -- more or less anything you can type text into. The Help file also offers a Super Quick Primer page.

Speed Keys has several modes to accommodate different users; if you don't want to memorize a lot of hot keys, you can use SPEED Keys' menu from the system tray. You can also create a desktop toolbar using a slightly complex procedure that involved dragging the speedtoolbar folder from an Open Files dialog to the desktop. We like hot keys, and we like Speed Keys, too. Give it a try; if you like it, skip lunch.

REVIEW OBJECTDOCK

This little app from Stardock can help--if only very slightly. The premise behind ObjectDock is very simple: it adds an animated, Mac-inspired dock to your desktop that provides easy access to useful shortcuts and serves to replace your taskbar (if you so choose).

The ObjectDock install is quick and light, and the program is extremely easy to set up. A simple settings menu lets you choose how many items you want on the dock, where it is positioned, and whether you want zoom enabled. You can also adjust the size, style, and color as well as set it to autohide or remain on top.

In addition, the free version of ObjectDock includes various "docklets" (Stardock's term for widgets) that can provide quick access to weather, time, and so on. For even more features, there's an option to upgrade to the Plus version for $19.95. It includes the ability to add multiple docks, creates tabbed docks in Windows 7, and offers improved task switching.
ObjectDock is designed to add style, organization, and function to your Windows experience. Place your favorite web links, program shortcuts and information widgets on this fun, animated and easy-to-use dock. Additional docklets provide quick access to weather, time, and other useful information. A new UI allows users to choose from a number of styles and special effects for a custom experience. The free version has only one dock (Plus version adds capability to have multiple docks, adds Tabbed docks, System Tray support and skin recoloring).

What's new in this version:

Icon reflections;

REVIEW DESKTOP CUSTOMIZATION FENCES

If you're losing the battle over your workspace to your desktop icons, a secret weapon is one click away. Fences quickly and easily organizes your icons into separate windows on your desktop, either automatically or manually. Labeling these boxes helps keep programs, photos, files, and Web links together, or you might choose to group by project rather than by file type. Whatever your logic, you'll be able to drag and drop fences (and the shortcuts within them) anywhere on your desktop.

You can furthermore drag and drop shortcuts anywhere, and resize the fence. A scroll bar pops up so you can find your icons in fences that you've resized to be smaller than their contents. In addition to sorting shortcuts, you can cleverly hide them completely by double-tapping the desktop; double-tapping again resurfaces them. Fences helpfully lets you exclude select fences from hiding. Customization tools can change the color scheme or take snapshots of your layout at any time, in case you'd like to switch among them without completely redoing your arrangement.

We just wish that creating a new fence was smoother and took fewer steps, and that you could create rules for certain files types to automatically download into specific fences. Perhaps we'll see that in a future premium version. In the meantime, we recommend Fences to anyone looking for a fast, fresh solution to persistent desktop clutter.

Fences lets users clean up their desktop icons in moments. Users draw "fences" on their desktop which enables users to drag and drop icons into them. Users can have fences show and hide by double-clicking on the desktop. In addition, users can control which icons show and hide when the desktop is double-clicked on allowing for easy desktop clean-up.
What's new in this version: Updated desktop customization options and maintenance optimizations for Windows 7.Click to see larger images

REVIEW ACER WINDOWS 7 THEME

Acer owners can now admire their favorite PC brand with a set of high-resolution wallpaper images from Windows7Theme. Of course, you don't need an Acer computer to use Acer Windows 7 Theme; this free theme pack will run on any Windows 7 machine. With 10 wide-screen images in super-high-quality 1,920x1,200 pixels, Acer Windows 7 Theme looks great even on competitors' machines.

Acer Windows 7 Theme installs itself on the desktop automatically when you click on the download. The Personalization panel opens in the Control Panel simultaneously, should you wish to make any changes. We'd set our system's Sounds to No Sounds, but Acer Windows 7 Theme seems to have reset Sounds to the Windows Default. However, it didn't reactivate our disabled screensaver, which would have hidden the theme's images. The theme activates the Slide Show feature on the Desktop Background settings; from its options, we could uncheck any image to remove it from the slideshow, change the picture position to fit our monitor, and set image rotation (including the Shuffle option).

Acer Windows 7 Theme displays Acer computer products as its theme, and any Acer owner would be proud to show off their laptop or other Acer device while they use it. But these brightly colored and beautifully rendered images can provide the sort of high-quality yet inoffensive desktop theme that often seems beyond achieving in some environments. If you want a dazzling high-resolution screen treatment that no one objects to, Acer Windows 7 Theme might just fit the bill, whether you have an Acer PC or not. And for Acer owners, it's a natural.
From Windows7Theme:

Acer Windows 7 Theme is dedicated to computer manufacturer Acer. This is a high resolution Windows 7 Theme which will fit very well into nearly all desktop and laptop screens with Windows 7 operating system. There are 10 background images of 1920 x 1200 widescreen resolution in the theme.

REVIEW AUDIOMULCH 4

AudioMulch is modular audio recording studio software that can be used in the studio environment for musical composition and recording but its inspirational foundation is based on the concept of using the computer as an improvisational musical instrument in live performance with instrumental musicians.
At the International Computer Music Conference in Banff, Alberta, Canada, AudioMulch’s developer, Ross Bencina, was introduced to the notion that a computer software’s user interface could be used as a musical instrument. That artistic concept corresponded with the introduction of personal computers that were fast and powerful enough to support musically useful real-time signal processing.

Standout Features

Real-time signal processing techniques
Unlimited combination of signal processing elements (contraptions)
Ability to process and generate sound files in live performance
Support for up to 24 channel s of real time input and output
Support for recording and playback of multiple synchronized files.

AudioMulch has a wide range of tools, features and sound generating and processing modules that are known as contraptions. The contraptions can be grouped into five categories: Signal Generators, Effects, Filters, and Mixers. There’s an Input/Output section which allows for patching your sound card’s in and out and supports multi-channel devices via its auxiliary ins and outs. The program supports VST audio effects plugins.

Signal generators include a monophonic bassline synth, a simple sine test tone/noise generator, a sample granular synth, and a comprehensive dual-oscillator arpeggiator. There’s also a looping fileplayer for replaying existing audio files and a Loop Player for doing likewise but synchronized to MIDI clock. Also featured is the sliding scale Shepard/Risset tone generator.

AudioMulch’s suite of effects includes a dynamic stereo spatialiser that permits setting the path and trajectory of a moving input signal, a delay line granulator, ring/amplitude modulation and stereo delay options. The program includes reverb, flanger and a harmonic shaper plus the pulsar comb filter. Thereare also a digital grunge inducer, sampling loopers, and waveshaper/distortion features.

AudioMulch offers five filter options including traditional mono and stereo parametric EQ, a resonant comb filter bank which adds resonating chordal drones, the Shepard/Risset filter bank with up to 50 moving band-pass filters, granular filtering and resonant lowpass with pattern triggering.

There is a variety of mono and stereo mixer features with added level and pan controls, gain and inverter controls, and matrix contraptions for dynamically modifying routing between input sources and output destinations with variable fade times with crossfaders to make the whole movement smooth.

Specifications:

AudioMulch is an interactive musician’s environment for PC and Mac. It is used for live electronic music performance, composition and sound design.

AudioMulch allows you to make music by patching together a range of sound producing and processing modules. Unlike some patcher-based programming environments, AudioMulch's modules perform high-level musical functions, so you don't have to create things from the ground up using individual oscillators and filters. AudioMulch is designed for live performance and improvisation – you can process live audio sources and control every knob and slider on the user interface using a MIDI controller.

REVIEW N TRACK STUDIO6

Turn your computer into a full on home recording studio with FASoft’s n-Track recording studio software. The most recent version allows you to do visual drag and drop of MIDI files making the overall program even more user friendly and efficient. n-Track makes it simple to record, edit and overdub your audio tracks to create professional sounding CDs or MP3 files.
Standout Features.

Supports simultaneous recording from multiple soundcards
Real-time audio effects can be applied to each track
Mixdown all the tracks into a single wav file
Live input processing
n-Track Studio is compatible with third-party plug-ins like the popular DirectX and VST as well as ReWire to process in real-time audio signals on each track. Along with these, n-Track also supports VSTi and DXi instruments plug-ins for sample accurate software MIDI playback. n-Track includes a feature called Live Input Processing, allowing you to process plug-ins with live signals.

The program utilizes 16 and 24 bit processing, however a native 64 bit version is available which uses the full power of 64 bit processing on a 64 bit version of Windows. Built in effects include Reverb, Multiband Compression, Chorus, Delay, Pitch Shift, spectrum analyzer and Graphic and Parametric EQ.

n-Track Studio supports surround mixing, for 5.1-7.1 surround sound channel formats, for mixing and creating DVD audio projects. The software supports AVI and MPEG video formats so you can play video in sync with the song.

If you have a 64 bit version of Windows, the n-Track Studio software will perform as well as any professional software. However, it will still work pretty well with a Pentium III processor and needs at least 256 MB of RAM to run effectively.

One feature we liked from the Website was the option to post your own music, created with n-Track, on the site so others can hear what the software is capable of and what types of features they’d like to include.

Specifications:

System Requirements

Windows 98, ME, NT4.0, 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP or Windows Vista. The 32 bit version can be used on 32 bit (x86) and 64 bit (x64) versions of Windows, the 64 bit version can only be used on 64 bit versions of Windows.

Once finished recording the whole song, you can mixdown all the tracks into a single wav file and to use it to record an audio CD track using a CD recorder or to distribute the song via internet using the built-in mp3 encoder

REVIEW SAMPLITUDE MUSIC STUDIO 14

WELCOME TO MY BLOG,,,
Samplitude Music Studio 14 All Music Studio software programs come with a learning curve. Even the simplest programs require hours of trial, error and troubleshooting before even a base degree of software familiarity and fluency is reached. That said, it is crucial for any Music Studio software program to have user-friendly design features and user interface, intuitive organization, effective, well-designed audio edition and arrangement tools and, perhaps just as important as any other element, informative and easy-to-access help and support sections.

With Magix’ Samplitude Music Studio, you have a good balance of design features, organization and audio tools, but receive an extra helping of help and support that strongly enhances this recording studio software’s appeal and usability. Though Samplitude Music Studio lacks the brand appeal of other Music Studio programs like Reason, Ableton or Pro Tools LE, its attention to every step of the audio creation and edition process, from importing to exporting, and its user-friendly, intuitive interface form a strong argument in favor of Samplitude Music Studio.

Samplitude Music Studio offers a wealth of tools, applications and features that make for a uniquely-intuitive experience editing and arranging audio tracks. A few of the standout design features include:

Samplitude Music Studio offers full compatibility with DirectX and VST plug-ins, two of the most widespread plug-in manufactures, for both audio effects and synthesizers. This compatibility greatly increases the functionality of the program, while enabling users to have a physical device to execute tasks that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to do with the program alone.

Samplitude Music Studio utilizes the same 32-bit floating point calculation technology that professional studios use. Any and all changes to structure and sound of tracks are executed using 32-bit floating point calculation. This provides users with a map or visual layout of a given track, from which more precise changes can be made.

The Automated Jam Session enables users to create complete songs single-handedly by simulating “looping delays” in a fashion similar to the Gibson Echoplex. The difference between the Jam Session Automation and the Gibson Echoplex is that Samplitude Music Studio creates an arrangement that can later be edited and arranged as a complete song.

The Remix Agent is a tool designed for producing DJs and live mixes. The application operates by recognizing in real-time the BPM count of a given song and editing it into precise loops and measures. These loops can then quickly be used to form the foundation of a mix.

REVIEW SONY ACID PRO 7

WELCOME TO MY BLOG,,ACID Pro 7 has come a long way since its debut in 1998 as a loop-based music sequencer, and this recording studio software has been a favorite for music producers almost from the beginning. Version 7 keeps all of the functionality that has made it popular among professionals in the music industry and adds some more features that help it stay up to date.
The digital audio workstation in ACID Pro allows users to perform multitrack recording, 5.1 surround sound mixing and MIDI sequencing. ACID Pro is also one of the best programs at creating loop-based tracks, being the first program to introduce loop-based music production.

The latest version has tweaked the ACID Pro program to make it a little faster and improved the mixing environment to make it easier to work.
Version 7 also includes some new features, like tempo curves, MIDI track freeze, input busses, better beatmapping and some more import and export options.

Standout Features

Industry-leading loop based music production

Support for FLAC, AAC, AC-3 Studio and MPEG 2 files
Comprehensive MIDI support.

You would expect a lot of features in a professional music mixing product, and ACID Pro certainly has enough to keep you busy. The features are layered throughout the program, with a nice visual interface that allows you to see all the tracks you’re mixing and the changes you’ve made to them.

ACID Pro has long been known for its loop-based music production, and version 7
carries on the tradition with automatic pitch and tempo matching, unlimited tracks and real-time loop previewing. The program is capable of producing 24-bit, 192 kHz sound from live or studio performances, along with a wide variety of standard loops and other media files available.

In fact, one of the major advantages of using Sony’s professional digital audio workstation is access to the Get Media download center. Get Media is a library of sounds and music that you can use in your audio mixing. The tracks in the Get Media center are all royalty-free loops, and they are all only available to registered ACID Pro users.

There are several new features that have been added in version 7, including tempo curves, MIDI track freeze, input busses and better beatmapping. The MIDI track freeze is particularly useful if you have tracks in a
multitrack project that you want to isolate. The MIDI freeze turns the track into a WAV file and plays it back like any other file. The new MIDI mixing console also makes a lot of tasks easier.

REVIEW SOUND FORGE PRO 10

WELCOME TO MY BLOG,,Where other recording studio software programs place most of their focus on recording, modifying and arranging, Sony Sound Forge places an equal emphasis on editing tasks such as restoring audio, reducing noise, repairing sound quality and refining tracks as a whole. Though its user interface is less visually oriented than other Recording Studio software programs like Reason, it is well organized and intuitive enough that its visual simplicity does not impact its overall performance and the quality of its finished tracks. However, while Sony Sound Forge’s strengths are apparent in the beginning and final stages of the recording process in inputting, converting, editing, refining and restoring, it lacks many of the tools and features necessary to give users the creative input and control in the middle stages of advanced composition, manipulation and modification.

Standout Features

Among Sony Sound Forge’s standout features include:
Disc-at-Once CD Recording
Stereo and multichannel recording
DTMF/MF tone synthesis
Wide-spread video support
Batch Conversion Functionality.

Every musician and technician has their own method for recording, modifying and editing. Whether it’s in the audio file formats they use, their preference for recording in multichannel or stereo or even what form-granular or wave form-they prefer to view their tracks in. Fortunately, Sony Sound Forge offers a versatile program compatible with most audio file formats (as well as many video formats), capable of being used for both multichannel and stereo recording and gives users several tools to make precise changes and alterations to tracks at various levels of scrutiny.

With its DTMF/MF tone synthesis tools, Sony Sound Forge can synthesis complex patches of audio information without significantly reducing the quality and integrity of the comprising audio elements, making for clean, high-fidelity conversions to other file types, or for recording to CD with Sony Sound Forge’s Disc-at-Once CD recording, which allows users to record tracks instantaneously.

As mentioned before, many of Sony Sound Forge’s Strengths are in its editing features and tools, which can be used in parallel with video editing tools to provide scores and soundtracks for video and other multimedia. They can also be used, with the proper hardware, to restore vinyl and cassette audio and batch convert them to a number of audio file formats using the batch conversion tool.

However, while Sony Sound Forge forges ahead with its editing and restoration features, it falls behind in its composition and modification tools.

Sony Sound Forge Performance

When operated using the basic recommended specs, Sony Sound Forge runs with little latency; though, its real-time waveform sample editor required computer specs that exceeded the basic requirements. Where its strengths lie in editing songs that are more or less intact, this might not be such a drawback. But, for those looking for a more complete digital audio workstation, this can be quite an obstacle. Nevertheless, with up to 64-bits of audio support, it might be a risk worth taking, given the right computer hardware.

REVIEW PRO TOOLS LE 2012

WELCOME TO MY BLOG
Recording studio software program for home studios for more than 10 years, giving artists and sound engineers the tools and features necessary to make professional polishes on tracks within an intuitive easy to use interface. Where many recording studio software programs have strengths in live performance like Ableton Live or in their sound creation and rack assembly like Reason, Pro Tools shines for its emphasis on recording and editing, providing customizable settings to function as a hub for hardware devices and MIDI controllers and the built-in editing functions to make precise edits, re-arrangements and refinements to tracks.

Standout Features

Optional musical notation composition
Composited workflows
Expanded hardware control

One slight drawback to Pro Tools, however, is its inability to run on normal, consumer-grade sound cards. For recording and playback, a Digidesign audio card, which is bundled with software, must be used.

The purpose of Recording Studio software has always been to deliver the tools and features available only in expensive studios to consumers at a fraction of the cost. Unfortunately, in most cases, these tools and features have come at the sacrifice of sound as well. Pro Tools has strived for a higher, professional-level quality of sound and, given the adequate hardware, achieved it again and again. Artists, producers and engineers the world over have made use it in professional studios and home studios alike to record and edit tracks to perfection.

With its Elastic Time settings, users can make real-time adjustments to gauge effect and even add loops and patches without having to make adjustments to pitch or tempo. In addition to Elastic Time, Pro Tools provides composited workflows, enabling users to audition, pick and choose different elements of tracks and combine their best elements to make flawless tracks.

With dynamic automated settings, users can experiment with track composition, making modifications and changes without losing any of the track’s information or having to guess what changes or settings are being used on a track. This can simplify the mess of having to reverse-engineer effects or map the track’s progression.
